This was a tough one for me but  I enjoyed it a lot. This was a small project working with the Residents Association at Richmond Cottages in Summer hill Dublin 1. We chatted for a few weeks about what we could do for the commission. It was decided and agreed by the residents to do this picture of Irish Writer Brendan Bhean.

Its been quite some time since I painted a portrait and Ive never painted on of this scale.
Measuring approx 9×6 Meters High.
It took me a while to get the face I wanted or was happy with. Ots of frustration over the few days but I was happy in the end. I owe a huge thanks to Brian the house owner and the man who organised the scaffolding, allowing me those extra few days.

Also a big thanks to Mick Raferty and the local residents association. Lastly I owe Tommy a big thanks. He was helping me out and cracking jokes for the duration.

This was fun. Im looking forward to another opportunity for a large one like this.

EUROPEAN SPACE AGENCY

living Planet Symposium, May 2019

Delighted to be selected from 50 artists around Europe to the the Artist in Residence for the ESA at the Living Planet Symposium in May this year. I got to work closley with Dr paul Fisher, D Anna Maria Trofaler and the rest of the Climate office team ending with a number of stencial art paintings at the living Planet Symposuim in Milan.

The Climate office webiste says: Staging the art exhibition during the event aims to  draw the scientific community’s attention to ESA’s Climate Change Initiative and the satellite-derived climate data records it generates.

These long-term, global observations help researchers to produce new scientific evidence and inform international decision-making through the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The popular appeal of street art is also expected to inspire and engage the next generation of Earth scientists and help to explain the findings and benefits of this initiative to a wider general public audience.

Shane’s collaboration with ESA follows his selection as the winner of the Climate from Space art competition last year, and continues his creative love of space.

His previous works have explored the concept of ‘choices’ on a journey and feature an astronaut character of neutral gender he calls SPACER. The new exhibition will include large-scale signature artworks and further examine the choices humanity is making, through the narrative of the climate and our growing knowledge of how our planet is changing.

“Working with the ESA Climate Office, I aim to celebrate the space that monitors Earth, but also to challenge the audience to consider what our future climate will be like based on the choices being made today.”

Collaboration Creative Laois & The Walls project

Acollaborative project with with @creativelaois  and the from the guys @WaterfordWalls and @dunamasecollege in portlaoise.

As part of the Creative Ireland Laois programme, a project was developed in partnership with the Heritage Office, Arts Office and with students at Dunamase College, Portlaoise to install the mural.

The mural depicts Rory Óg O Moore and his wife Margaret O’Byrne (of the famed O’Byrne Clan of Wicklow). The iconic Laois site the Rock of Dunamase is in the background

Students and staff from Dunamase College were on hand to help out on Friday and leave their mark on the painting which is designed to last on the wall well into the future
